PTV at Sea 2010 Program
PTV at Sea enriches, inspires and entertains with informative programming, presented by public broadcasting’s most interesting personalities. Filmmaker Michael Kantor joins PTV at Sea to speak about his experiences creating acclaimed works on the history of the American musical and American television comedy for PBS. Ari Shapiro, NPR’s White House correspondent, will share insights from his position as one of the country’s most respected journalists in the realm of political and legal affairs. Three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O’Hara, America’s current top leading lady of the Broadway musical, joins musical director Rob Fisher on stage for rousing – and exclusive – performances as we sail. Celebrating Broadway and beyond, this PTV at Sea voyage promises to be a voyage unlike any other.

Michael Kantor is the Emmy Award-winning filmmaker who created the landmark PBS documentary series, Broadway: The American Musical. His recent work for PBS, Make ‘Em Laugh: The Funny Business of America, is an epic six-part series that chronicles over 100 years of American comedy. A nominator for the Tony Awards, he is president of Ghost Light Films and Almo Inc., companies dedicated to bringing the arts to film and television. |

Ari Shapiro, NPR's award-winning White House correspondent, reports for all of NPR's newsmagazines, including Morning Edition and All Things Considered. He has also been a guest host for NPR's news and talk programs. Based in Washington, D.C., Shapiro is the first NPR reporter to be made a correspondent before age 30. He has received the American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Award, the Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize and a “laurel” for excellent reporting from the Columbia Journalism Review. |

Kelli O’Hara has established herself unequivocally as one of Broadway’s great leading ladies. She has earned Tony Award nominations for her inspired performances in The Light in the Piazza, The Pajama Game (opposite Harry Connick Jr.) and, most recently, the acclaimed revival of South Pacific. In addition to her celebrated Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Pops conducted by Rob Fisher, Kelli’s concerts include Carnegie with Barbara Cook, The Kennedy Center with Marvin Hamlisch and the NSO, the New York Philharmonic with Marvin Hamlisch, and Lincoln Center. She performed at the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors as part of the Barbra Streisand tribute. |

Rob Fisher is an international authority on American music and classic musical theatre. He is the founding Music Director/Conductor of the Tony Award-winning Encores! series at New York City Center and was bestowed the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Special Achievement in 1997. Mr. Fisher was Producer/Music Director of the highly acclaimed program celebrating the music of Cole Porter, featuring David Hyde Pierce, for Lincoln Center's American Songbook Series. He also continues to act as the supervising music director for productions of Chicago around the world. Mr. Fisher has conducted many major orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Pops and San Francisco Symphony. |
